Jason Wright spent 17 years inside higher education as a psychology professor before building Workshop Doctor. He holds a PhD in psychology and has designed and delivered 21 unique college courses across every instructional modality — face-to-face, hybrid, asynchronous, and synchronous — which makes him one of the few workshop methodology practitioners with hands-on experience delivering learning at scale in every format.
His approach didn’t come from a textbook. It came from five years of self-directed experiments with active learning in his own classroom, followed by a catalytic experience as a lead instructor in his college’s partnership with the Minerva Project — the team behind the Forum, the purpose-built active learning platform used at Minerva University.
Lead instructor and liaison, Paul Quinn College × Minerva Project partnership (2020–2021) — one of three lead instructors teaching on the Forum active learning platform, and the primary liaison between Paul Quinn and Minerva Project over the course of the engagement.
Through the pandemic, Jason was one of three lead instructors teaching on the Forum platform and — as the engagement deepened — became the primary liaison between his college and Minerva Project. While most professors spent 2020 and 2021 complaining that online learning was a joke, Jason was inside a purpose-built active learning system that proved the opposite. The problem, he realized, was never online learning. The problem was taking a broken lecture model and putting it on Zoom.
Workshop Doctor is the synthesis of that experience. It’s built on learning science research, the active learning methodology Jason refined over five years of deep work after Minerva, and the pattern-matching of running programs across every format imaginable. The goal is simple: give creators and coaches the structural tools Jason had to discover the hard way, so they can stop running workshops that produce high satisfaction scores and zero behavior change.
How This Content Is Produced
Every article in this library is authored by Jason. He curates every source, defines the voice and calibration rules, owns every framework and insight, and reviews and edits every article before publication. AI tools accelerate the research synthesis and drafting stages against Jason’s specifications. No article is published without his direct review.
For the full policy — what AI tools do and don’t do in the content process, and how research claims are verified — read the methodology page.

Workshop Doctor
The core Workshop Doctor platform — including the flagship Workshop Health Check diagnostic — lives at workshopdoctor.com. The Workshop Health Check is a free 10-minute assessment that surfaces the specific places your current workshop design is leaking learning. It’s built on the same research base as every article in this library.
